so after years of wishing and dreaming i finally embarked on a new journey.  i planted my feet in southeast asia.  sitting here now, i can close my eyes and still hear the sounds of the hasseling tuk tuk drivers, the choking smell of emission free vehicles and then finally, the tastes and flavors that filled me with profound amazement and had me begging for more.  

a country of deep contrasts.  lush tropical beauty countered by crippling poverty.  there were moments when i had a tough time wrapping my american sensibilities around the very questionable hygiene of the street.  i wonder how long it would take for my mind and body to transition to a place where it all seemed commonplace?

i went to see and experience first hand the origin of the food which has captivated me.  i left wishing i had more time to see and experience...  just a little more time.  

i imagine it will always be that way.

my house

I live in a totally cool old house.  It's almost 100 (I might be having a party)  built in 1910 it's a craftsman style bungalow. I have lived here for just over 7 years. I love old houses.  They have stories to tell.

 I am currently at a crossroads.  Some of the things I want to do would require me to have more outdoor space.  I want big vegetable gardens and the thing I want most is a wood burning oven.  I've wanted one for close to 20 years.  I don't think I'll be able to have one here since I live within the city limits.  The first time I went to Italy I will never forget the smell of smoke in the air.  On the ride from the airport in Milan we drove past a place that makes wood burning ovens.  I immediately started plotting how to get one.   I have a cool picture of another trip.  Here it is

when I look at this picture, which was taken in Florence, I imagine a kitchen with the wood burning and the smell of roasting chickens and bread baking.  So I'm at a crossroads because my dream involves that oven and that garden.  

Can you imagine my house sitting in that big Italian garden??  ha ha wouldn't that be odd?  1910 vs the 1600's
